Conference & AGM 2014 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

The APHTRO conference 2014 will be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan through the courtesy of Railway Cultural Society, Taiwan. Everyone with an interest in heritage railways and museums will be warmly welcomed.

Venue & Schedule
The venue of the conference is Kaohsiung, second biggest city in southern part of Taiwan.

Schedule of the conference prgramme is;
2 May Fri – Arrival, Registration and Banquet (from early evening)
3 May Sat – APHTRO AGM and Business Session
4 May Sun – Steam train round trip in the Old Mountain Line and Changhua Round House
5 May Mon – Wushulin Sugar Railway and Taipei Railway Workshop
6 May Tue – Mt.Ali Forest Railway round trip to Mt.Duli
7 May Wed – Free tour in Kaohsiung City and Harbor (Optional)

You can take free ride on Taiwan High Speed Rail trains, thanks to great effort by Railway Cultural Society, Taiwan.
It is advised to book until the end of March to reserve train seats.

All hotels are located within walking distance from Formosa Boulevard (R10) of Kaohsiung MRT Red Line.

Access to Kaohsiung
Kaohsiung Airport has routes from many Asian cities. Dragonair flies from HongKong with reasonable price.
Kaohsiung MRT directly connects from Kaohsiung Airport to Formosa Boulevard station.
Many airlines fly to Taipei Taoyuan Airport, near capital of Taiwan. Bus runs to Taoyuan station of Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR), that train takes you to Kaohsiung in approx. 100 minutes. Zuoying station in Kaohsiung city, terminal of THSR, is connected to Kaohsiung MRT Red Line too.

Arrival information
Please check this page or ask your local Taiwanese government office for your Visa information.
ATMs are widely available, easy to withdraw New Taiwan Dollar at airport and many other places. Reasonable Money Exchange is available at Taipei or Kaohsing airport. Local banks are opened in business hours on weekdays for exchange.
The climate of Taiwan is warm and hot, it is advised bringing long sleeve clothes for too air conditioned places.
